Richard Greer
The Chairman of the Board and Co-founder of Universal MH/DD/SAS, Richard Greer is one of North Carolina’s true industry leaders for providers of community based services. Robert V. Greer
is the CEO/President and Co-founder of Universal DD/MH/SAS. Robert attended Western Carolina University and Rhode Island College where he pursued a degree in Business Administration. Like his father Richard, Robert is a businessman by trade. He is an industry pioneer and possesses a profound ability to sculpture proficient and strong management teams. Having founded and successfully lead numerous companies, Robert has proven that successful teams start with caring about every single Universal team member. Being part of the Universal team is like being part of the Greer family.

Laura H. Arndt
is the Controller for Universal MH/DD/SAS. One of the many bright young minds of Universal, Laura attended Appalachian State University to earn her Bachelors of Science in Business Administration in 2005 and her Masters of Science in Accounting in 2006. Her experience with Dixon-Hughes CPA firm has certainly prepared her for her various Controller responsibilities. At Universal Laura manages the entire Accounting Department.
Laura is a newlywed whose husband, Chris, serves as Distribution Section Sergeant in the U.S. National Guard. Currently, Chris is stationed in Basra, Iraq.
Laura says, “Universal has provided me with an opportunity to help a company that truly cares about the people of N.C. I am happy to be a part of an organization so focused on providing quality services.”

Alicia Austin
serves as the Executive Vice President of Universal MH/DD/SAS. Alicia obtained her B.S. and M.A. in Education from Appalachian State University. Alicia has served as the Business Partner for Valmead Elementary School, worked extensively with local athletic booster clubs and PTAs and has been involved with various civic organizations. Currently involved with the daily operations of Universal, Alicia has seen the transformation of the company since Universal’s inception in 2003. Alicia says, “I feel Universal is the best in the field, because of the kind of people we hire and the management that we have put in place.”

Amy England
is the Vice President/Agency Director of Universal MH/DD/SAS. She earned her B.A. in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and began her career at McDowell Technical Institute as an Instructor of a sheltered workshop. She later worked in Child Protective Services in McDowell County. Amy spent several years at Foothills Area Program as CAP-MR DD Case Manager, became the CAP Thomas S. Specialist and DD Director, and evolved into Provider Services Director for the local LME. Her broad knowledge of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse services provides a solid foundation for Universal. Amy’s emphasis on quality growth is a key to Universal’s recognition as one of the most respected providers in North Carolina. Amy currently serves as a board member of the non profit organization, McDowell Foundation as well as serving on various provider councils throughout the area.

Steve Greer
is Universal’s Vice President of Human Resources. A graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College with a B.A. in Business Administration, he directs all human resource functions. He has thirty-five years of experience in human resources, sixteen of those in the mental health and developmental disabilities field. Steve is dedicated to maintaining the company’s efficient business practices and ensuring the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.

Brook Phillips
Universal’s Vice President of Operations is responsible for all field operations and Quality Management. He has undergraduate degrees in Human Services and Criminology and earned a M.B.A. from Saint Leo University. He is also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. A qualified developmental disabilities professional and a qualified mental health professional, Brook has nineteen years of diverse experience working in the field. He enjoys the challenge of assuring that Universal MH/DD/SAS continues its tradition of providing quality services in an ever-changing environment.

Gene Rodgers
is Vice President of Governmental and Community Relations. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Social Work from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and the University of South Carolina. Gene has amassed fifteen years experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities and/or mental illness. He comes to Universal after six years of directing, building, growing, and expanding a periodic community based agency in the Triangle and Triad. He has become a state recognized leader in both the local and state governmental and community sectors, serving on numerous committees, work groups and boards including; six years on the Board of Directors and two years as President of the North Carolina Provider Council, the largest cross disability trade association in North Carolina. Gene adds a significant state-wide presence for Universal, continuing relationships, committee work, and networking with members of the executive and legislative branches of state government, as well as working closely with each LME and the communities they serve throughout the state.
